Important Candle Care Tips

1.    To get the best burn from container candles, burn the candle long enough the first time you light it so a wax pool forms that covers the entire top of the candle. Extinguish the candle when it reaches this point. Depending on the diameter of the candle or container, the initial burn time will vary. Generally your initial burn should be 1 hour for each inch of diameter.  For example, a candle that has a 3" diameter should be burned approximately 3 hours the first time.  Subsequently you should try to burn the candle at least as long as necessary for the candle to reach the "memory pool" you created with the first burn. Following these guidelines will ensure a cleaner and longer lasting candle.

2.    Candle wicks should always be trimmed to ¼ inch before lighting to prevent smoking. Trim candle wick only when the candle is cold. After extinguishing a candle, clean out any carbon deposits or other foreign materials while the wax is still liquid.

3.    It is important to remember that candles are fire, and if treated improperly can cause serious damage.

4.    Never leave a burning candle unattended or where children or pets can get near it.

5.    Never place candles near curtains or other materials that are flammable.

6.    Place candles on a hard, steady surface that is heat resistant.

7.    Despite everything, some candles just may not burn properly. Wick size, the quality of the wax, fragrance and dye, all affect the way a candle burns.  We use only quality products, and test burn our candles so that you get a quality burn with each candle. However, if you do have a problem with any of our products, please contact us and we will try to rectify the problem.

The Story of the Fragrance Mushroom

When burning Hearts A Glow Soy Candles, wicks will develop a black "fragrance mushroom".  This "fragrance mushroom" is caused by the high volume of fragrance oils which have made our candles so popular.   A wick serves as a straw when burning, pulling the fragrance oil through the wax and releasing the fragrance into the air as it burns.

Hearts A Glow Soy Candles’ "fragrance mushroom" is a constant reminder to you of our dedication to quality and your enjoyment.  When a "fragrance mushroom" is formed, gently blow out the flame, let cool, trim wick to 1/8"-1/4" and relight.  Without this simple attention, the "fragrance mushroom" could smoke and cause an oversized flame.

Our Wicks are Lead Free!

We only use American-made zinc core wicks, which are more expensive than plain cotton wicks and which give you the advantage of an easy-to-light (or relight) wick. When using a cotton wick, if the top of the candle liquefies and it is blown out, the wick in many cases will be submerged, and it is necessary to "dig" to relight the candle.

The zinc wick is 100% environmentally safe and has no relationship to a lead wick. By using a zinc wick, you will experience a longer-burning and more even-burning candle.
